Pagunette's digital transformation
Since 1960, Pagunette has been selling high-quality textiles to the Nordic market. Especially the sale of fabric for curtains has been a critical market for Pagunette.
When Pagunette began a major digital transformation of their business around 2017, it was therefore particularly important to strengthen their position in this particular market.
One of the challenges Pagunette faced was the lack of technical anchoring of the knowledge that experienced employees and partners carried around. For Pagunette, there was also a risk associated with losing employees who possessed critical knowledge of the existing ordering and production flow.
The challenge – Complex products with thousands of variations
Until 2017, Pagunette's success could largely be attributed to an unwavering focus on quality, good business acumen and a relentless effort to be the dealers' preferred partner. With the advent of digitalization in all industries, Pagunette realized that the next battle to be won was a digital transformation of the company.
At the time, however, Pagunette did not have much experience with digitizing their trading activities:
- The company's technical solutions had never been considered part of a digital solution
- Due to a lack of digital maturity, Pagunette had several time-consuming, manual workflows when the large dealer network ordered products.
In a B2B market where there are increasing demands on the digital tools, portals and aids that are exhibited to, for example, a dealer network, there was a lot at stake for Pagunette.
Pagunette - an attractive, digital partner
Specifically, Pagunette wanted to make ordering curtains even easier for the company's many partners and dealers. This should highlight Pagunette as an attractive, digital partner for dealers. Since curtains are complex to customize/configure, this feature helped to highlight the great ambitions for a future solution.
When a curtain needs to be configured, the retailer makes a wide range of choices:
- What material should be used?
- What are the desired measurements?
- Does the material limit which methods can be used in other parts of the manufacturing process?
- How should the curtain be installed?
The digital solution was thus intended to relieve the organization internally by eliminating the time-consuming manual processes, while at the same time giving the dealer network access to better/easier ordering of curtains - a solution that could scale Pagunette's business, and be continuously rolled out widely to many dealers.
The solution - New ecommerce platform and a new, user-friendly product configurator for Pagunette's dealer network
For Pagunette, a new, digital foundation was crucial for the ability to execute on the new digital strategy. Therefore, in 2018, a completely new digital B2B e-commerce setup was built, which was to be the starting point for future e-commerce efforts. The solution was built on PIMcommerce - a platform that brings together the best features from DynamicWeb's e-commerce platform and Perfion's PIM system.
The new platform makes it easy for Pagunette to work systematically and efficiently with products and product data, which are subsequently published in five different languages, across international markets - including Germany, Sweden and Finland.
With the new e-commerce platform in place, Pagunette and PicoPublish have subsequently developed and implemented a product configurator for ordering curtains. The product configurator has been developed with a special focus on making ordering curtains easier for the entire dealer network.
This is how the new platform eliminates the slow manual workflows
Before the new platform was launched, Pagunette spent precious time handling orders manually. The product configurator now helps to utilize the product data that PIMcommerce makes available, and today automates both ordering as well as order management and logistics.
Retailers using the configurator today experience greater flexibility when ordering curtains, while Pagunette can eliminate manual workflows associated with the production and delivery of these orders. New orders are now automatically created in DynamicWeb, and then sent on to Pagunette's ERP system. After this, the order is put into production and can subsequently be delivered to the dealer without the need for heavy manual processes.
With a PIM system, Pagunette also gets the opportunity to easily add the latest products, variants and options in the configurator, simply by updating product data in the PIM solution.
The result – Streamlining workflows, smart (re)use of data and better support for the dealer network
The interaction between the technologies is the cornerstone of giving Pagunette a future-proof foundation for new, digital initiatives that create value for Pagunette, as well as for the dealer network and other partners. A good digital foundation is and will remain the strongest starting point for innovation.
At Pagunette, they saw the opportunity to differentiate themselves with the help of a product configurator that displays the company's product data in an easy-to-understand and value-creating way for the end user (in this case, the dealer network).
It has ended up being a win/win situation, as Pagunette has automated several manual workflows, while the dealer network is offered a high degree of flexibility in connection with their orders.
New opportunities for future digital innovation with PIM and new e-commerce platform
A spin-off effect of Pagunette's investment comes in the form of the new opportunities for publishing data that a PIM system provides. In addition to supporting the B2B market, Pagunette can now also focus on the B2C market, where the PIM solution enables easy publication of data in relevant channels and marketplaces.
With PIM as the "Single Source of Truth" for product data at Pagunette, you can now easily push this data out into all relevant channels without having to create duplicates, copy data between systems or the like.
